JULY 2010 - WEILIANG ZHAO

March 9, 2010, 6:50 am

Dear Contemporary Art Friends, Collectors and Clients,

WEILIANG ZHAO, our featured artist (click on CURRENT EXHIBITION) for the month of July 2010, returns to San Francisco from Shanghai this month following major accomplishments and recognition through the completion and dedication of a monumental sculpture celebrating the Sister Cities and exhibiting at the Shanghai Art Expo Inter-Continental - World Expo 2010. San Francisco Mayor, Gavin Newsom, was in Shanghai for the dedication ceremonies to present this Monumental Sculpture for the City of San Francisco through it's Art Commission and Asian Art Museum, in recognition of the San Francisco Shanghai Sister City Relationship and World Expo 2010. The sculpture was created by Weiliang Zhao, Chase Chen and Yinghao Huang and Producer Joan Chen. This honor has followed a series of commissioned paintings created by Zhao in the city of his birth. Recently Zhao also experienced the excitement of painting one of his unique abstract artworks on the body of a BMW Automobile. WEILIANG ZHAO IS A MASTER ARTIST ON THE MOVE IN BOTH CHINA AND THE UNITED STATES WHERE HE HAS RESIDED MOST OF HIS LIFE. Zhao has exhibited and is collected worldwide.

I'd like to share a couple quotes from others regarding the artwork of Weiliang Zhao:

"Weiliang Zhao's work was exhibited among the world-renowned contemporary artists, such as Basquiat, Andy Warhol and David Hockney. During that
Asian Tour, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation collection displayed 81 artworks by 74 artists. The Weisman Art Foundation is widely considered as having one of the world's greatest assemblages of contemporary art."
- Nancy Halpern Brougher, Curator of Art,
Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation

Two of Weiliang Zhao's paintings were added to the Weisman Permanent Collection and installed in their Tokyo Offices.

"Zhao's abstract work implied historical mystery and religious sanctity, presented in such a metaphysical way that the viewer could not fail to notice his philosophical concern. Zhao's philosophy is a mixture of fatalism, a reverence for Buddhism and a free interpretation of Taoist doctrines. To his mind, the square symbolizes the structure of the world, as opposed to the circle of "Tai Gi", in which the balance of Yin-Yang maintain the ultimate harmony and stability of the universe."
- Leon Lee, Art Critic, Chicago

I, personally, appreciate the blending of Eastern and Western rhythm and dynamics and Zhao's mastery of color.
